Years passed and Meena became a rage, proving Kamal's judgment of her right. But Meena's own illusions about Kamal were fast fading. She soon reached a stage where she was no longer in awe of him. As she grew more independent, their relationship became strained. There were frequent quarrels, slanging sessions and tension. The climax was reached one night when in a roaring fit of anger Kamal shouted those fatal words, 'Talaq, talaq, talaq!'
The next morning, a repentant Kamal told Meena he didn't mean it and didn't want her to leave him. Unfortunately, since he had already given her talaq, the only way the two could remarry was if Meena performed nikah with someone else got talaq from the second husband and then returned to Kamal. The biggest problem was whom could she marry? And what if her second husband refused to give her talaq?
While they were still wondering what to do, Mr. Baker, Kamal's most trusted secretary cum production-in-charge entered the room. Kamal's mood brightened up instantly. Meena's nikah with Baker was performed immediately and in total secrecy with Kamal himself as the witness! The next day Meena was back with Kamal.
However, their happiness turned out to be short-lived, as soon, a virile, rustic newcomer called Dharmendra distracted Meena! Meena persuaded Kamal to sign Dharam for 'Pakeeza'. After the muhurat, Kamal, sensing Meena's interest in Dharam, went ahead and replaced the latter with Raj Kumar.
A showdown was inevitable. That night, during another blazing fight, Kamal slapped Meena hard across her face. [That very moment one of Meena's producer-directors had walked in, without the knowledge of the trio in the room]. Meena screamed at Kamal, "Don't you dare touch me. You are not even my [legal] husband!" Kamal realized Meena was right, as Baker was yet to give her talaq. Kamal called out to Baker, who came in from the other side of the room. Kamal ordered him to beat up Meena. And according to the eyewitness, the obedient secretary followed his master's orders! That very night Meena left Kamal Amrohi never to return!
