Amitabh Bachchan is undoubtedly the biggest earner in Bollywood with all the films he does and the products he endorses. But Bachchan pays his taxes regularly and honestly too. He is therefore the biggest taxpayer of Bollywood. Not to be left far behind in earning and paying taxes honestly is our own Shahrukh Khan and the ethereal Aishwarya Rai. We present the names of the top five tax payers of Bollywood for the financial year 2004-’05.
Amitabh Bachchan, the man who was disgustedly tormented by income tax officials while he was at the hospital, earned a whopping 19 crores, but paid an equally exorbitant amount of Rs 6.35 crores as tax.
Shahrukh ‘King’ Khan was not far behind Mr Bachchan. SRK made a cool Rs 18 crore, out of which he shelled out Rs 6.30 crore as taxes.
Aishwarya Rai, the only actress in the top five of the elite list of highest tax payers of Bollywood paid taxes amounting to Rs 4.95 crore on earnings of Rs 15.30 crore.
Hrithik Roshan, who did not have any release in the year was surprisingly at the fourth position. He paid Rs 3.20 crore on an income of Rs 9.6 crore.
And Aamir Khan was the last of the top five. Very choosy about his films Aamir earned Rs 9.20 crore out of which Rs 3 crore was paid as tax.
The top Bollywood actors practically mint money with every thing that they do. And they proved that they are law abiding citizens as well, by paying the income tax due on these big bucks, this year. This attitude of the actors would surely wake up the Indians and hope they would emulate their Bollywood idols and pay their taxes too as from the taxes comes the funds required for the development of the country.
