Try this exotic & rich KHICHDI


1/2 cup red/orange masur dal
1/2 cup white rice
5 cups of water
1 Potato
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Haldi
1-1/2 tsp Garam Masala
3/4 tsp of Red Chilli Powder
2 Tsp of Veg. Oil
1 Onion
2 Whole Red Dry Chillies
1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
1 Tsp fresh cut coriander leaves


Mix and wash rice and dal, add in water, peices of potato, salt and haldi in a Pressure Cooker, and cook it on high heat for 10 minutes, and then on medium heat for another 6-7 minutes. After heat is turned off, do not open pressure cooker for another 15 minutes.

Now take a pan, heat oil, add dry chillies, cumin seeds and onions and saute it until slightly brown. Add garam masala and chilli powder, and dump the whole thing into the khichdi in pressure cooker. Add fresh coriander and serve hot only. Simple to cook, and rich in taste.


Serves 3 people.
