Shah Rukh denies plans to join politics

Despite rumours that bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan was keen to join the political bandwagon, the actor has denied having any such political ambitions.

Shah Rukh appears unintrested in joining politics and is keen on focusing on his career in films at the moment, the sources close to him said on Saturday.

Rumours of Shah Rukh joining Congress were fulled when Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra along with her family dropped at the actors house for dinner on Thursday.

Priyanka, on a private visit, also went to the film city where the actor was shooting for his home production Paheli.

Priyanka meets SRK in Mumbai with Rajya Sabha seat offer.

Earlier speculations about Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan joining the Congress Party gathered momentum yesterday when in an unprecedented move, Piryanka Gandhi Vadra flew down to Mumbai in a closely guarded mission and met the mega star for dinner at his bungalow at Bandra Seaface.

Top sources in the Congress Party said that Priyanka and husband Robert took an early morning flight to avoid the Mumbai media. From the airport, they headed to Film City in Goregaon, where Priyanka came to know Khan was shooting for a film called Peheli. The crew members of the under-production film looked on in susprise when the high-profile guests walked onto the sets to meet the star.Later, Priyanka and Robert had dinner with the Khan family at their residence Mannat.

From there, the Vadras went to Taj Land's End next door for the night. They are reported to have caught an early flight to Delhi this morning. Though the purpose of Priyanka's visit has been kept secret, and no details of the discussions she had with Shah Rukh Khan are known, Bollywood and Congress Party sources claim that she came on behalf of mother Sonia Gandhi to offer a Rajya Sabha membership to him. The Rajya Sabha seat that former Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Nirupam vacated last week is lying vacant. Given the strength of its MPs in Parliament, the seat might go to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) if a fresh nomination (elections) is made.

And the Congress may well be planning to fill the vacancy with the high-profile star. Rumours of Shah Rukh Khan joining the Congress became rife when Congress Rajya Sabha MP Rajiv Shukla threw a party for him in New Delhi this week after the star was awarded the Padma Shree. Shukla is close to Shah Rukh Khan and he apparently mooted the idea of inducting the Bollywood heart-throb into the Congress fold. Shukla and Bolywood actress Rani Mukherjee were also reported to be at the Mannat dinner last night.Though Shah Rukh Khan was unavailable for comment, he had earlier denied any plans of joining politics

Shah Rukh reigns supreme

It's official - Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee are the king and queen of Bollywood as the stars bagged two ‘oscars’ each at the 50th Indian Filmfare awards.

The elite of the Bollywood movie industry shined as they walked the red carpet to find out who were the winners and losers at this year’s competition.
Bollywood's best and brightest — Sharmila Tagore, Shammi Kapoor, Rekha, Shabana Azmi, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, Kajol, Mahima Chowdhury, Manisha Koirala, Kareena Kapoor — were all part of the audience thronging the venue.
When Amitabh Bachchan walked in, the audience forgot what was happening on stage and stood up to catch a glimpse of the superstar, proving that the decades may come and go but the Bachchan charisma remains intact.
The four main awards were swept up by Shah Rukh (best actor for Swades), Rani (best actress for Hum Tum ), Kunal Kohli (best director for Hum Tum ) and Yash Chopra (best film for Veer-Zaara ).
Shah Rukh also won the power award and Rani also went home with the best supporting actress award for Yuva.
The show was presented by the irresistible Saif Ali Khan and Sonali Bendre.
Many of the top stars gave a great performance on stage as they rivetted to top Bollywood numbers. Rani danced to a medley of popular hits from 'Hothon Pe Aisi Baat' to 'Choli Ke Peeche' while Priyanka Chopra sizzled to sultry dance numbers from the '70s and '80s

Bachchan’s role in Paheli

He has played almost every role – an army officer in Lakshya and Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo , a teacher of the hearing-impaired in Black , a police officer in Khakee and Dev but in Paheli Amitabh Bachchan is playing a role which he has never played in his life.

The Amol Palekar directed Paheli stars Shah Rukh Khan opposite Rani Mukherjee , Juhi Chawla as SRK’s sister-in-law, Sunil Shetty opposite Juhi. But what role does Bachchan play in the film?

Reports are that Bachchan plays the role of a shepherd in Paheli, but don’t think that it is a small role.

The role may be of a shepherd but Bachchan’s entry in Paheli is at a very dramatic juncture and the story takes a new turn after that.
Reports further add that Bachchan is very happy with his role in Paheli which is written by Vijaydan Detha.
