The Indian-American community here is raising funds to aid rescue work in South India where tsunami struck Sunday, leaving thousands dead.

The giant tsunami--large waves caused by underwater earthquakes or volcanic eruptions--were triggered by an earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale that struck beneath the Indian Ocean.
