"Lambi Judai" singer Reshma complains

God listens to Reshma who feels ignored by Bollywood

The popular Pakistani folk singer Reshma is grateful to God for answering her prayers for a ''closer link'' between Lahore and this holy city, but feels sad over being ''ignored'' by the Indian film industry.

The Punjabi folk singer, who became famous with her powerful rendition of ''badi lambi judai'' in Bollywood blockbuster Hero, today sang it again after alighting here from the inaugural Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) luxury coach from Lahore.

Later, talking to reporters, the singer expressed her disappointment with the Bollywood film industry saying it did not ''consider me suitable for any honour.'' ''I am not hungry for awards as I have won many, but the film (Bollywood) industry could have been gracious enough to have acknowledged my contribution,'' she said.

''I have been used I feel, and not rewarded accordingly'' adding ''Subhash Ghai, the director of 'Hero' should have taken the lead in recommending my name for an award at some platform''.

''I am sad that India has not recognised my contributions,'' the rustic singer said. Besides singing, Reshma had also appeared on the screen in her song 'hai o rabba, badi lambi judai...' She has given a good number of live performances in India.

However, she is happy that ''It is no longer a 'lambi judai' as the long wait is over now. ''Waheguru ne meri ardas sun lai''(God has answered my prayers), she said explaining that when she had come here three years, she had prayed for closer links between Lahore and Amritsar while paying obeisance at the Golden Temple.

Getting nostalgic about Amritsar, she said she still remembered her visits to her 'nanke' (maternal grand parents) near the holy city, coming all the way from Lahore on a 'tonga' with her parents and brothers and sisters before the country's partition. Later in the evening, Reshma and her family members paid obeisance at the Golden Temple to thank the 'Waheguru' for having answered her prayers.

''Ab mai judai de geet nahi, khushi de geet gavangee'' (now I will sing songs of joy and not of separation), Reshma declared when she came out of the shrine.
