For someone who is considered the undisputed ruler of the Hindi film world, Amitabh Bachchan certainly hates ‘Bollywood’ with a vengeance. Before you get the wrong idea, let us clarify that AB has a major aversion to the word ‘Bollywood’, because he thinks it is derogatory for the Hindi film industry to be unfavourably compared to Hollywood - from where the word is derived, you may guess. In fact, he believes that “A lot of people in Hollywood are also copying Bollywood films,” Bachchan says. “There is a man in Spielberg’s studio who makes it his sole business to watch Hindi films and remake them. Why, now they’re even remaking ‘Munnabhai MBBS’! Let me tell you that George Lucas’ ‘Star Wars’ series is nothing but a take off on our ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Mahabharata’. So why are we blaming the Hindi film industry for copying?” Why, indeed? Maybe Shakespeare was wrong after all - there is something in a name, don’t you think?

Parneeta touches Kolkata of sixties - Amitabh Bachchan all excited about it
Big B is ecstatic about Parneeta and its impact on Bollywood. He says “I am happy that Parineeta is seeing a premier at the IIFA. This kind of gives it a global platform. Its unfortunate but many of our films are one-faced. They are either the escapist or the pretentious variety. With Parineeta at the IIFA, I am hoping that the world sees a product of the Hindi cinema industry that is entertaining, commercial yet has a beautiful stroke of being artistic. So I am glad that there's a great product from us for international display. Hope people come to hear a good story being told.”
Amitabh Bachchan is indeed an enigma, which not many can fathom. Whatever he does turns to gold. Every brand, every film-maker, have made millions by using his name, fame and frame. The latest tribe to join the bandwagon is publishing houses. Quite a few authors are penning candid books on Amitabh Bachchan. His wife Jaya Bachchan’s book is already in the market, which will be followed by another one by his brother Ajitabh Bachchan. Earlier, scribe Sumant Mishra had brought out a book too, in Hindi and yet another giant sized visual is on the way, courtesy senior photo-journo Pradeep Chandra, who’s been working on the glossy book for quite some time after films and ads, now it’s the turn of publishers to make a kill courtesy the Big B.
